Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat was tasked to assist an ocean-going rowing boat off the eastern coast of the Isle of Wight this afternoon (Bank Holiday Thursday).
Battling against the tide and strong winds, the rowing boat crew requested assistance through Solent Coastguard at around 16:00.
Sandown Lifeboat was launched and located the boat – with 4 persons on board – off Ventnor.
A tow was established with the rowing boat taken to Sandown Bay, where it has moored up for the night.
The lifeboat was recovered by 17:45.
UPDATE – The boat is now being towed to Langstone Harbour.

Hope it’s not more to take our houses and fill our schools and hospitals.
What’s the best they didn’t look at the shipping forecast???
Looks like it’s the GB Challenge boat again. I think they’re practising around the island ahead of the race start next week. If it is them then that’s the 2nd rescue as they were assisted here in March. And if so, they might want to reconsider entering that challenge.
