Sandown Town Council has extended its congratulations to Sandown Bowling Club as it marks its remarkable 100-year centenary.
Founded in 1926, the club has been a cornerstone of community life in Sandown for a full century, playing continuously at its historic home in Sandham Gardens. Over the decades, the club has brought generations of residents and visitors together through the sport of bowls, fostering friendship, wellbeing, and community spirit.
The centenary celebrations were attended by Sandown’s Mayor, Councillor Alex Lightfoot, who joined distinguished guests including the Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Mrs Susie Sheldon, and Deputy Lord Lieutenant Richard Priest and Shanklin Mayor Sara Sheath.
Their presence highlighted the significance of this milestone not only for the club but for the wider community.
Sandown Town Council would like to express its heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to the success and longevity of Sandown Bowling Club. Special recognition is extended to Club President Jeff Edkins, Directors Roy Jemson and Rob Powell, and to Jeanette Powell, whose efforts as host helped make the centenary celebrations truly memorable.
