The troubled Sandown Bay Academy is making reasonable progress to move out of special measures, according to a recent an Ofsted report.
Her Majesty’s Inspectors visited the school at the end of May in what was the fourth monitoring inspection since the school was placed into special measures back in January 2013. A total of 30 lessons were observed with a further 14 other lessons briefly visited.
The report, released today, shows that the school hasn’t made any significant changes since Ofsted’s previous visit in January, however it is of the opinion of inspectors that the school is making ‘reasonable progress’.
The school may now appoint newly qualified teachers (NQTs).
According to the report, the school’s Principal Mr Jackson continues to show a quiet and very firm determination to bring about the improvements required and does so skilfully.
Principal, Eric Jackson said:
“I am extremely proud of the achievements of the academy, its staff, and the students, and their commitment as we continue on our journey to make our best better. We must now be one of the fastest improving schools in the country and we will continue in our journey towards excellence”.
Beverley Perin, Chair of the Management Board and Director of Challenge and Intervention for AET, said:
“This has been a year of exceptional progress at Sandown Bay and I wholeheartedly welcome and endorse Ofsted’s praise for the academy’s leadership, staff and students”.
