Salty’s in Yarmouth will close its doors for the 2025 season later this week, with the owners confirming the early shutdown is a financial decision – but it remains unclear whether the popular harbour-side restaurant will reopen next year.
Despite the brand’s strong reputation and its prime location on Quay Street, the early closure this coming Sunday (28th September) reflects the challenging trading conditions currently impacting the Isle of Wight’s visitor economy.
A spokesperson for Salty’s has now confirmed that the team is still working through plans for the venue’s future. When asked whether the closure is permanent or seasonal, they said:
“We are exploring opportunities for Salty’s to ensure it re-opens next spring, in its current guise or another, we are still working through the details and will give a full update once plans are finalised.”
This year marks the second season for Salty’s under the ownership of AKA Restaurants – who also own Colwell’s The Hut. They took over on a 15-year lease in April 2024.
The business was previously run by Ed and Melanie Panek from 2020 to 2024 before being sold due to health reasons.
In a statement issued to Island Echo, a spokesperson for Salty’s has said:
“We have made the decision to close Salty’s doors at the end of this week, earlier than anticipated this year as a financial business decision.
“We would like to thank our amazing team of staff who have worked incredibly hard this season, which we are very grateful for. We also thank all of the guests who came to dine and party with us this year.
“Salty’s continues to remain open for the rest of this week and our last day of business will be Sunday 28th September. We look forward to welcoming guests for the rest of this week for lunch or dinner, live music on Friday & Saturday night, and of course a squiggle on the ceiling!”

That’s the Labour Government for you, just wait until
Rachel’s November budget, more and more businesses
will fold.
The only organisations not struggling are Government
run organisations, they can afford to keep paying
staff to shirk from home on full pay.
Lol
Nothing to do with tourism being down 26% this year then due to the compounded greed of multinationals during the covid years then?
Tourism is down due to the Government leaving
families with less money in their pockets,
hence going without holidays.
No, nothing at all.
Or AKA Restaurants company spread themselves too thin , or could it be the Saltys is not the cash cow that The Hut is ?
Ran perfectly for years when the Greens had it.
Ed and Melanie probably ran out of staff that would work for them over the course of 4 years. I’ve never had the displeasure of working for anyone more awful than Malanie.
I reckon the current operator has just got used to the sort of prices they charge in the Hut… the most overrated venue on the IOW.
how could it be a financial decision while i heard that they only had one full time chef in for the majority or summer, and as well own the hut which should be able to cover the expense of rent as well as utilities. .
