Pet Doctors in Ryde is planning a move to much larger premises in the town, converting a former factory into a 21st-century veterinary practice.
A planning application has been submitted by parent company CVS Group Plc to convert the former Milmega building on Park Road into a multi-disciplinary clinic.
The existing premises off Spencer Road has been a vets for decades, previously known as Taylor Alexander & Griffiths before becoming The Lawns. However, it’s said that the need to relocate has now arisen due to the demand put on the existing practice and the need to provide modern-day veterinary care.
Currently, the practice has clinical rooms that should be for a dedicated activity but are instead being used in a phased manner by various clinicians, generating disruptive, inefficient working patterns.
The move to Park Road will allow Pet Doctors to deliver enhanced levels of patient care in a modern working area. Separate cat and dog wards will mean a less stressful recovery area for animals and there will be much larger dog kennels, providing a more effective recovery environment.
It is also hoped that the new practice will have a dedicated theatre and X-ray suite, as well as a dentistry suite close to the cat and dog wards which will bring about efficiency through better space planning and appropriate Royal College of Veterinary Standards-approved facilities.
Contemporary and up-to-date veterinary consulting rooms will be provided and staff welfare is also a critical consideration with a large staff room planned.
As part of the conversion works the existing roof will be replaced with a new Sargasso Blue coloured metal roof, revitalising the building next to the Isle of Wight Bus Museum. There will be enough parking spaces for 13 cars.
A consultation on the plans is open until 3rd October, with the Isle of Wight Council set to make a decision by 25th October.
It is unknown what will become of the practice at Spencer Road – an affluent area of Ryde. Meanwhile, Milmega has moved its operations to Daish Way, Newport.
CVS Group also owns Pet Doctors in Newport and Cowes, as well as the Medina Veterinary Group and the Isle of Wight Emergency Vet in Newport.
All we need now is the necessary staffing levels
