Ryde School with Upper Chine and Medina College both travelled to Portsmouth to compete in Day 3 of the 2016 Be Your Best Portsmouth Challenge yesterday (Wednesday).
Ryde School with Upper Chine took to the stage in an impressive fashion as they retold the complex story of Pans Labyrnth in ‘Escape from Reality’. This largely student led production was far from minimal and in complete contract filled the stage with striking set, costumes and visual elements from start to finish.
Medina College’s piece ‘Dreaming is Believing’ truly radiated with youthful exuberance and spoilt the audience with an amalgamation of fairy-tale favourites. For the entire eight minutes the energy and commitment was un-wavered aided by a soundtrack extremely popular with the crowd.
The event, held at Portsmouth Guildhall, attracted a large audience and was supported by PQA, Association of Chief Police Officers Criminal Records Office, Hampshire County Council, Hampshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team, HC3S, Ian Wright Consulting and Hampshire Healthy Schools.
Both Ryde and Medina took home an Award of Excellence for Entertainment, as well as an Award of Excellence for Video Performance.
Meanwhile Ryde School with Upper Chine bagged awards for School Community Support, Student Leadership, Cultural and Educational Achievement, Excellence for Stage Crew and Excellence for Lighting. Medina also won an award for Costuming Character for design, hair and makeup.
