This is a really good emergency response by the emergency services however southern Vectis not so much. They just sent every one off their bus leaving children of 15 and 16 to walk in the dark not knowing where the next bus is. And parents not being able to collect them as the road is closed. They could have been kept dry and safe on the bus until some arrangement could have been made.
I think at the age of 15 or 16 you ought to be able to work out what to do. I had left home, started work, rented a bedsit, paid my bills and fended for myself. When are we going to stop wrapping young people in cotton wool? No wonder everything seems to be a major crisis for them.
Nowdays the youngsters live off Bank of Mum and Dad
or sign up to a life on benefits.
and yet no teenager is actually being wrapped in cotton wool, you just come to these conclusions yourself…the only poeple i see having a major crisis are the oldies when they hear something they dont like…absolute snowflakes
Rare to read something so completely wrong, even from Enough is Enough, YNSC. If you honestly believe based on your empirical observations that no teenagers are (metaphorically) being wrapped in cotton wool and that the only people having a crisis when they hear something they don’t like are oldies, perhaps you should get out more…or seek help.
Yes actually I didn’t really explain my point very well I didn’t mean just children of that age but everybody on the bus that was going as far as ryde were just left to find their own way, with no information. In the really bad weather. Some were elderly some were teen agers and some younger. Either way the bus company were not very helpful and could have done more. The teenagers were going a long way and so had to arrange lifts and were left in an area they didn’t really know.
Spot on, Betty.
We have a island full of pedophiles now. So I do get the point that I wouldn’t want my 15 year old daughter walking home on her own. It’s not like it use to be. The courts protect predators on the island.
Leaving 15 and 16 yrs old to walk in the dark, are you serious. Parents to collect them. What a namby pamby society this is . I was taking the bus to and from school at a lot earlier age alone in all weather’s. No wonder this generation are turning into snowflakes
Surely at 15 or 16 they should be able to find their way home. I used to cycle three miles to school and three miles back in the dark both ways in the winter from age 11. We are always being told kids grow up younger these days.
Back in the good old days youngsters done paper
rounds in the dark, the generation of today are lazy.
Yes they did great. Even coast guard was first in scene to get some vitals before police and ambulance arrived.
Whilst I feel sorry for those poor young adults having to walk a bit, I also feel very sorry for the woman who was knocked down in atrocious weather conditions, and probably got very wet and cold on the ground whilst waiting for emergency services.
Wishing her a speedy recovery.
That is why in such built up areas near schools etc should
be 20mph.
Also many pedestrian crossings need better lighting
making it easier for drivers and pedestrians on dark nights
and poor weather conditions.
I am also surprised how many traffic light crossings
especially in Newport do not bleep so pedestrians know
when it is safe to cross the road.
DOES THE ISLAND ROAD SAFETY / HIGHWAYS DEPT NOT
REMEMBER THE GREEN CROSS CODE!
I am hoping when devolution comes along road safety
on the island will be addressed.
For the year 2026 road safety is Poor!
Thankfully the pedestrian on this occasion is ok.
That’s a pelican crossing and was pretty clear I was stopped there as she crossed the other driver was careless not looking for pedestrian and stated she didn’t see her.
Might have been looking at phone,
many motorists do.
Time to hand your license in
Why is it when a pedestrian is run over now it’s described as a collision or a crash? It implies equal force. This poor woman was run down by a motorist on a crossing. I hope she’s OK & recovers. The driving on this island is atrocious
Island drivers should take tests on the mainland
Here here I agree totally
In the dark and rain it is very hard to see sometimes please I am begging the council put in tons of green man crossings replace zebra ones everyone stops for a red light. Please put everyone’s council tax to better use. I am really upset for the injury caused to the pedestrian. I hope you recover soon this is so awful and could have been avoided with a green man crossing
