As part of Volunteers Week (2nd-8th June), the RSPCA Isle of Wight branch is paying tribute to the incredible contribution of its volunteers, who play a vital role in supporting vulnerable animals across the Isle of Wight.
The small, independent charity relies heavily on the time, skills and dedication of volunteers to keep its animal centre running – a place where animals are rescued, rehabilitated, rehomed or released.
Volunteers carry out a wide range of tasks, from walking dogs and reading to cats, to transporting animals to vet appointments, cleaning, helping in charity shops, supporting events, producing social media content, and maintaining the centre’s buildings and grounds.
Rebecca Busby, Volunteer Coordinator, has said:
“We have volunteers that have been with us for 30+ years who have been coming to our centre every week. We have a lovely gentleman who walks dogs for us every morning, a 92-year-old who makes cards to raise money, and many friendly faces greeting our shoppers.
“We wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of our volunteers for their support and hard work with our charity. We truly appreciate your kindness, time and dedication that you donate to improve the lives of the vulnerable animals in our care. Your efforts make a real difference and we’re so grateful to have you on our team!”
Volunteering with the RSPCA offers a range of personal benefits, including meeting new people, learning new skills, staying active, and giving back to the local community. There are no fixed time commitments – even a few hours a month can have a meaningful impact.
