Staff and patients at St Mary’s Hospital were left stunned on New Year’s Eve when Queen Victoria and her son, King Edward VII, made a surprise visit to the Newport site.
The royal appearance brought unexpected cheer, with many catching a glimpse of the historic monarchs as they toured the hospital grounds.
Queen Victoria has said:
“Having heard of the delicious meals served in the hospital canteen, one decided to taste them for oneself.
“They lived up to expectation, and the portion was large enough to satisfy even Bertie’s appetite.”
