Posties are to strike on Christmas Eve and on 5 other dates throughout December as their dispute with company bosses at Royal Mail over pay continues.
The Communication Workers Union has announced that its members will strike on no fewer than 6 days in December, the busiest time for deliveries in the run up to Christmas.
Walk-outs are planned for 9th, 11th, 14th, 15th, 23rd and 24th December, meaning anyone using the service for Christmas present deliveries should expect delays in delivery times.
This news comes just 2 weeks after it was announced that workers are to strike on Black Friday and Cyber Monday – arguably the 2nd busiest time in the postal calendar.
The strikes all centre around a pay deal, with members of the Communication Workers Union angry at Royal Mail for imposing a 2% pay deal at a time when inflation had rose to 11% and the company had made huge profits as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It has also been revealed this week that Royal Mail are looking to scrap Saturday letter deliveries altogether, partially as a result of the lost profits resulting from strike action in 2022.

Don’t worry old mate, I will use on line services. More reliable and a lot less expensive.
No one is more deserving for a pay rise than the Royal Mail
Postal workers.
They do a great job, out in all weathers.
Are you taking the piss. It’s an unskilled job anyone can do.Fact!!!
Go and do it then on their pay conditions.
You are wrong. Firstly, posties need to be reliable – a rare quality these days. Secondly, they need to be trustworthy (though fraud is a problem in a way it never used to be).
indeed! I did just that for 11 years in 90s.as a tiny woman i managed well… even seeing new guys taken on dropping off like flies as couldnt hack it. But ANYONE CAN DO IT!! As for above crap “work in all weathers” yes you do but that not a life threatening experience fgs and you know what job entails when you take it on!
It has manual parts ..lot less now than when i did it defo.
Ill be honest here…these workers get paid pretty decent for what they do ,its not skilled job,..and its no minimum wage is it so im afraid this will all backfire massively on them .greedy bosses will always exist wherever but the business is unreliable…too costly and is dying more now strikes are going on
YOU WONT WIN THIS ONE IM AFRAID
Rubbish , the manual work is a lot more then when you left , there is so many more parcels and oversized parcels what a ridiculous comment , it’s like saying when I was a child , no comparison whatsoever
Erm..know the facts wally
No trollies more daily junk mail ect back then. still put on its standard.
It WAS .way back..THATS WORSE fool did you work there? Nope.i know exactly what goes on nowadays.any muppet can do it.
Know the facts ?? FACT I work there you don’t , FACT in the 16 years I have worked there parcels have gone through the roof, FACT the Isle of Wight are the only Royal Mail services that still deliveries Amazon FACT you are talking out of your arse
It’s an unskilled job that anyone can do in fact done it myself when a postman put someone else’s letter in my door I took it to the correct house put it in the letter box simple
when I first started in 2006 you hardly had any parcels in the bags, rarely any oversized , sick of idiots who think they know the job talking rubbish when they don’t, I agree it’s not a skilled job, I agree most people can do it however not everyone who tries it sticks with it
Every Christmas and Summer during the ’64- ’66 holiday breaks at Uni; I worked for the Local Royal Mail sorting office in Rhyl Noth Wales. It involved placing each letter and postcard into City slots 8×6″ on a big board. All is done automatically now as a ‘Reader’ allots the mail according to Post Code. It was exactly the same as other regular workers’ jobs, and I had to join the Postal Office union (Communication Workers Union). The ‘skill’ was guessing the City and code the letter was intended for when there was no Post Code. Nearly all Birmingham was ‘Bham or Liverpool; Lpool. The men used to sing at work, and the atmosphere was jolly and cordial.
It’s time for Royal Mail lay offs!!!
I will never use Royal Mail ever again,They lost my £400-£500per week on delivering my parcels,I now use UPS courier and they are fantastic….hundred times better than Royal Mail……
Unskilled job anyone can do, paid above minimum wage for said unskilled job yet think they are entitled to more. I’m sure there’s plenty of people out there that could do the job.
Personally, I value my postie. Wherever I have lived, big cities or extremely rurally, I have had great posties. Away from urban locations, they are an important part of the community. We couldn’t have managed without them during COVID – a lifeline for many. Out in all weather’s too. However, it used to be a position of trust (sadly not so any more), a lot of fraud these days, unfortunately.
100%correct.strikers out there are taking the bandwagon piss now. Millions earn way lower and have too crack on.
Too have a job us lucky even nowadays
Cut your cloth too match !
And it’s all this striking that’s pushing up the cost of living why do people not see this. Give them a pay raise then all of a sudden it will cost more to send something
Shows the utter contempt that these workers (so called) have for the public. We’re not getting anywhere with the management over our stupid demands so let’s ruin everyone’s Christmas for them. Pure spitefulness. Roll on the 6,000 redundancies that they are creating for themselves.
How is it ruining Christmas? Don’t exaggerate.
Probably better off out of work as seems to be the way forward as you’ll get everything going on a plate It’s the working class who suffer making ends meet
Sack the lot of the lazy melts! Just employ some Albanians! Least there get the work done! Total unskilled job
Yes, you are a bell
They can obviously afford to lose money…
I am just going to text family and friends and phone them ….
Money that would have been spent on cards and postage ( v expensive postage) , will go to charity……
Letter deliveries by the Royal Mail are the best value there is. If I want to send a letter to my daughter in Lincolnshire it costs me about £1 – If I had to take it, it would cost me that to start the engine in my car. If you think being a postie is an easy job out in all weathers, often being the eyes of the community and carrying heavy bags well I wouldn’t want to do it. I0f people got their Christmas mail ready early enough they wouldn’t have to work on Christmas Eve and the strike would not be an inconvenience.
Fully agree with this. Our posties are brilliant, I wouldn’t wish to be without them, not withstanding the longstanding service they have provided. It’s all very well having numerous other companies pinching their business, but there is such a thing as a carbon footprint which comes to play here, I’m not saying the other companies aren’t good too, but why on earth do we need to have all of them running heir vehicles belching out pollution. If it was up to me, there’d be just the one company doing what we always had and doing it well.
I’d have a little consideration if they stopped losing my parcels I’ve paid for then making me wait 30 days before I can make a claim and a further 90 days before they make a decision. Absolute pirates.
I don’t t think that’s the postman’s fault.
He can only deliver what he’s given.
… are you intentionally being a dumb clown?
I’m out of sympathy! Royal Mail have lost my parcel and totally lied about it. Claimed the recipient business had ceased trading, which is rubbish. Then they claimed they had tried three times to deliver it, also lies – checked the security cameras, plus no cards have been left. They now admit that they have lost it. So upset.
Must be loaded to walk out , work to rule far better
What happens to people who are waiting for urgent medical equipment, medicines by post, hospital appointments etc?
One fact i cant understand why do staff do what they like? Finish 3hrs early and still get paid!!!!! Vans are left in a mess staff not doing checks on vans befor goung out. Not sining i. Or out on PDA. Royal mail wanted to bank the hours that staff get finish early and use instad of paing over time if staff work 1 min overtime get paid 15mins. Lets hope royal mail give redundancies to there good staff one that dont want to wast time ie staff rush around but when back early told have to do other jobs ie sorting next day stay out taking time to deliver? Let hope if royal mail go bank rupt then all for strikes dont get redundancies. Even better lets hope union staff pay the wages of ones that dont want to strike. Or mabe lose jobs
What the bell are you talking about ?! Finish three hours early I’ll have some of what your smoking , what a waste of a comment
