Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club saw a return to competitive action after 6 weeks when they travelled to Southampton last weekend for the Woolston Regatta.
The regatta went ahead despite the rough conditions with the club securing no less than 6 wins alongside a 2nd place and 3rd place finish.
The Senior Ladies four of Rachael Debenham, Phoebe Horan, Daisy Faithfull, Emily Faithfull and Esme Walters (Cox) lead from the start and following an excellent buoy turn extended their lead out to 5 lengths to take the victory.
The Faithfull sisters secured a second victory for the club and with it the lead in the H&D championship with a win in the Ladies Senior pairs event.
The club’s Junior Ladies pair of Beth and Frances Katirewa recorded their 1st win in this category with Frances then going on to compete in the Ladies novice sculls where she kept her composure in the rough to secure her 2nd win of the day.
The Men’s novice sculls race saw Fred Giemza-Pipe cope best with the conditions winning both his heat and the final.
The Junior ladies four of Sophie Atkin, Esme Walters and the Katirewa sisters took an excellent second spot whilst the club’s Junior men’s crew of Arlo Adds, Carter Horrix, Louis Sheasby and Giemza-Pipe also finished on the podium coming home in 3rd.
The mixed race also went Shanklin’s way with the crew of Debenham, Giemza-Pipe, Sheasby, Daisy Faithfull – with Esme Walters coxing – taking the win by 4 lengths.
The club’s successes meant they also secured the Victor Ludorum trophy for the most successful club at the regatta.
