A convicted sex offender who failed to notify Police that his Natwest debit card had expired has been found guilty of failing to adhere to the requirements of the register.
David Bradshaw, 66, of Dolcroft Road in Rookley, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with notification requirements when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that in February 2020, Bradshaw was sentenced to 12 months in custody, suspended for 2 years, for 3 counts of making indecent images of children.
As a result of this conviction, Bradshaw was ordered to notify Police of any changes to his bank cards within 3 days of receiving them, something he went to Newport Police Station to do on 5th October 2022.
When questioned by Police and asked when he received his new Natwest debit card, Bradshaw simply said ‘somewhen last week’.
Police conducted checks on their database and found that his previous card expired back in June 2022.
The reason for the need to notify Police of any changes is to keep track of any transactions of any illicit and inappropriate material.
The 66-year-old has 2 previous breaches of his order including the deletion of his internet history back in March 2020 and a failure to register to Police back in February 2021.
Defending, Oscar Vincent argued that his client had documentation that made mention of registering credit cards but not debit cards and that Bradshaw had never owned a credit card in his life.
The prosecution argued that the document Bradshaw came to court with was outdated and that he had in fact been given a more updated and more stringent list served to him by a specific Police officer as of January 2022.
After lengthy deliberations, it was decided that a ‘Newton Hearing’ was needed to decide whether the account put forward by the defence, or that of the prosecution, was most akin to the plea in which Bradshaw had entered.
Bradshaw will next appear in court on 9th February.

Such a waste of legal aid, police and court time over a debit card which police do now have information of and can check back this pervs history. Just extend his order – would protect vunerable a little longer.
why is everyone like him on that island. I think because there is nothing else to do.
There everywhere, not just the island, find something to do other that being a pervert
