Middle Road has been closed in both directions due to a road traffic collision involving a fallen tree near Calbourne this evening (Monday).
The incident has occurred at Swainstone, between Ashen Grove Farm and Sun Hill/Lynch Lane.
Island Echo understands a vehicle has been involved in a collision with a tree that has come down across the carriageway.
Southern Vectis say Route 7 buses via Newbridge will divert via Gunville, Forest Road and Elm Lane to Calbourne.
UPDATE @ 19:26 – Middle Road has now been re-opened in both directions.
Southern Vectis buses will continue a normal route.

These land owners should have to have all their trees checked by an expert once a year. IF you had a building in danger of collapsing onto the highway, you would be prosecuted should it fall and hurt someone.
Is it because it is mostly the idle rich who own most of the land in the UK thus any rules that impact on their wallets will never be implemented.

What politics has got to do with falling trees is beyond me, unless they don’t have a limb to stand on. What about the trees that are demanded to be planted on residential planning applications alongside the roads? Who are responsible for those, council or public? Even natural beauty comes at a cost.
