The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is offering two 4-year apprenticeship vacancies at its Inshore Lifeboat Centre in East Cowes, a centre for excellence for the building and maintenance of rigid, inflatable lifeboats on the Isle of Wight, to start in September 2016.
The two apprenticeships offered are for a mechanic and a boat builder and the apprentices will be working on all classes of lifeboat and associated plant machinery working alongside experienced technicians.
The mechanic apprentice will learn about assembling, installing, repairing, modifying, diagnosing and maintaining all aspects of mechanical equipment and systems. The boat builder apprentice will gain an understanding of engineering drawings and composite materials, skills in lofting to build plug and moulds, assembling, installation, repairing, modifying and maintaining.
Lynne Mason, Apprenticeship Manager said:
“Our award-winning apprenticeship scheme ensures that the apprentice and their performance is our main focus. This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody who is looking to develop their skills in boat building or mechanics.
“It’s brilliant that the RNLI have been recognised for the hard work and commitment of all the people involved in our apprenticeship programmes, from our managers, HR Business Partners and mentors to the apprentices themselves who are fantastic ambassadors for the RNLI”.
The RNLI has been offering apprenticeships for nearly 20 years. The charity currently has 24 apprentices and has also begun to offer apprenticeships in other areas of the business as well as engineering and asset management.
The RNLI’s apprenticeship scheme has been recognised by Apprenticeships 4 England in their annual Training Provider and Apprenticeship Employer Awards. The RNLI won gold in the category for employers with 751 to 5,000 staff.
The closing date for apprenticeship applications is the 8th April and candidates can apply on the website: https://jobs.rnli.org/vacancy/apprenticeships-x2-isle-of-wight-254431.html.
