A temporary width restriction has been introduced on Hope Hill in Shanklin, restricting the vehicular access to Shanklin Esplanade.
As first reported by Island Echo on Wednesday, a sinkhole opened up on the only road down to the seafront at Shanklin.
An emergency closure was initially put in place but that has now been replaced with a temporary width restriction. This restriction only permits vehicles under 6’6” (2.0m) in width to access the Esplanade and properties off of it.
The closure will be re-introduced under the existing Road Closure Order for approximately 1 day on Tuesday or Wednesday next week, to enable the repair works to be completed.
