2 men were arrested in front of crowds of holidaymakers on Ryde Esplanade yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) following reports of a person with a knife.
Police were called just before 14:20 to a report from a concerned member of the public that a person was in possession of a knife.
It was reported the person had the knife in their bag.
Officers responded at speed to the seafront and arrested 2 people – a 27-year-old man from Ryde and 31-year-old man of no fixed abode. They were both nicked on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.
The 31-year-old man has since been released with no further action. The 27-year-old man has also been released, but remains under investigation while enquiries continue.

Nothing wrong with nicked… everyone understands what nicked means… no need for that level of nitpickery. Exactly that type of comment is what’s wrong with the world these day’s
There is when it is written in a news report, unless they were merely quoting what someone said, which was not the case here. A lot of what is wrong with the world these days is precisely the lowering of standards and the dumbing down of everything to accommodate people who abuse the language so they don’t feel left out by seeing it used properly.
Why was the 27 year old released with investigations ongoing?????
