Red Funnel has cancelled at least 2 vehicle ferry sailings on its East Cowes-Southampton service this morning (Friday).
A technical issue with the forward propeller onboard Red Eagle means that both the 07:00 from Southampton and the 08:30 from East Cowes have been pulled.
The cross-Solent operator says that teams are working hard to resolve the issue.
It’s unclear at this early stage if there will be any further cancellations today.
Red Funnel apologises for any disruption to your journey.
UPDATE @ 09:35 – Further cancellations have been confirmed. The 10:00 from Southampton has now also been cancelled, alongside the 11:30 from East Cowes.
UPDATE @ 11:50 – It’s been revealed by Island Echo that an injured crew member dropping a mooring line into the water led to an entanglement of the prop. Read more at https://www.islandecho.co.uk/ferry-delays-caused-by-staff-member-breaking-leg-and-dropping-rope-into-propeller/.
UPDATE @ 13:20 – The 13:00 from Southampton and the 14:30 from East Cowes have now also been cancelled due to ‘further complications’.

How many ‘technical’ issues meant cancelled sailings when the IoW festival was in full flow and the ferry’s were packed? Any?
How much longer do we have to put up with this second rate (Service)? BRIDGE anyone??
NO is the answer to that one
Why is this bridge bollocks banded about all the time ? will NEVER happen would cost 100s of millions.Yes the boat situation is crap now and not fit for purpose but it’s all we are ever going to have.
The ferries are as bad as the floating bridge. Get the bridge built
You have more ferries sat in dock so use them
Getting a bit concerned about going over to Southampton as will I get back and if so at what time???
Extra sailings on Sunday for the saints game though?
Oh no! How will we all cope. Geez, people need to get a grip and learn to adapt. Lol
