Isle of Wight West MP Richard Quigley is continuing to toe the party line following his recent vote against a grooming gang inquiry.
It was back in September that Quigley voted in favour of the Labour Party’s plans to cut the winter fuel allowance, which saw payments of £300 made to all individuals over the age of 66.
Later in 2024, Quigley – a Cowes resident – was then 1 of 330 Labour Party members who voted against plans to scrap family farm inheritance tax.
This latest vote, held yesterday (Wednesday), saw Quigley vote against an inquiry into grooming gangs – an amendment attached to the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill.
All 3 of Quigley’s decisions, which have seen him very much tow the party line, have drawn their fair share of criticism from Island residents including from a Island Echo reader who sarcastically claimed that Quigley was “really in touch with his constituents”.
The Isle of Wight’s other MP, Joe Robertson, was unable to vote on the matter as a result of the Isle of Wight Council’s Extraordinary Meeting discussing devolution that was held at County Hall last night (Wednesday).
Robertson did, however, appear on national TV earlier in the day calling on the Government to hold an inquiry into the issue.
The Government of Inquiries, Commissions and Reviews (Over 60 since July) won’t hold a National Inquiry into the grooming of children and the apparent wall of silence from people in positions of authority. @KemiBadenoch is right – we need a national inquiry now. pic.twitter.com/EWG9k2m7nf

UPDATED ON MONDAY 13TH JANUARY –
“The amendment tabled by the Conservative opposition would not have resulted in an enquiry into grooming gangs being commissioned. If it had been successful, it would instead have resulted in the entire Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill falling. Parliamentary procedure would then have prevented the bill being reintroduced.
“The Tories knew this and instead of tabling the amendment at a later stage, that would not cause the bill to fall, they went for a wrecking motion as a political stunt.
“Anyone that tells you this was a vote on an inquiry into grooming gangs is, quite simply, lying. The amendment is available for anyone to read for themselves.
“This bill is crucial. It’s bringing forward the biggest child protection reforms in a generation, funding free breakfast clubs and capping the number of branded school uniform items needed, driving high standards in schools and breaking down barriers to all opportunity, so all children can thrive.
“I want action now to prevent the crimes described and support the victims and survivors. That’s why I am proud to have voted to give our children a better chance in life and I am truly shocked at the Conservative party’s opposition to giving our children the protection they deserve and the best start in life.
“And having spoken to colleagues across the house even some conservatives are disgusted by their own party’s behaviour.”

If YOU voted for this person thinking he would do any good for the Isle of Wight people you must now be very disillusioned.
Who on earth thought the island needed two MP’s?
Only one of them seems to have the islands welfare at heart.
Labour ..the party of pathetic wankers
Evil government. Thinking of their seats rather than the kids. I must be far right
A party that’s had difficulty in acknowledging that women exist. Now hushing up this massive crime.
It’s not until you visit another country, and observe how it’s government value and respect it’s working families, and care for it’s retirees and elderly, that you realise what a shit hole your own is, that thinks more of illegal immigrants and sides with evil scum, low life swillers and smackheads, and rob IT’S retiress to pay them all free handouts with.
You can always move to another country.
Thailand is nice.
Lol
In it for his own ends I’m afraid, obviously not listening to his constituents, maybe needs to paddle one of those rubber dinghies that keep arriving on our shores only in reverse, Southwards.
A weak politician is not what the island needed,
it is now costing much more to have 2 MPs
rather than 1 MP.
We need MPs with a voice who are not afraid to speak out
Dianne Abbot, Dawn Butler and the late John Prescott
& Tony Benn etc
That was going so well until you dropped Diane Abbott in there.
I think we’ll all have to assume that putting her name in there was some sort of joke?
She was a remarkable MP for Hackney and probably the most abused politician ever
She is not afraid of 2 Teir.
We do not need lefties. Got that sunshine?
Define ‘lefty’. Sunshine? How dated. Threatening in a quaint way
You have been watching too many episodes
of Morecambe and Wise sunshine.
Lol
Just another labour yes man so out of touch with the uk public thoughts…..
Yes men don’t get votes.
It is important to understand that the Opposition amendment would have wrecked a Bill which offers very significant safeguards to children at risk. I really wish people would understand the draft legislation before they launch into criticism about anything which does not emanate from Conservative Central Office.
While we are talking about accuracy, perhaps Mr Rann would also like to use colloquial phrases correctly. The expression is to “toe the line” not “tow the line”. It’s origin lies in reference to standing at the bar of the Chamber of the House of Commons which is as far into the Chamber as non members who seek to address the House may go.
Shame on you Quigley and all those who voted for this anti British, Muslim promoting, failing to deal with the child abusing bunch of scum. Never has one man had such a negative impact on this once great country as Starmer & his bunch af shameless followers!!
Quigley, just like the the rest of labour, you are a traitor, and a disgrace, how the hell do you sleep at night!
Andy Burnham is a man with a voice.
Seems the Labour govt is running scared of what skeletons are hiding from the fallout of failing to deal with this first time round.
I don’t know why they waste the time and effort voting when we all know the MPs are so scared of being excluded from the trough of plenty that the results will always be what Starmer demands.
Obvious proof they don’t give a sh*t about us. Proof they are not fit to run this country. See how bloody fast it would all change if one of their kids became a victim of these animals. Corruption and ball lessness of the highest degree and aiding and abetting the scum by protecting it.
Just like themselves their children are protected.
It is one law for them and one law for us.
We are not all in this together, we never will be.
It is them and us!
And West Wight chose this man over Seeley. Didn’t they do well.
Bob was a much better MP
Seeley did nothing the whole time he was an MP so he is not a good comparison.
People were forever moaning about Bob, give me
Bob any day over Dick.
Gutless creep. The only way to have the slightest chance of democracy, is to abolish the corrupt whipping system. Anyone would think Cur Granny Starver had something to hide.
