UPDATED: Firefighters are tackling a small property fire at an address in Binstead this evening (Monday).
2 appliances from Ryde are on scene at Jelicoe Road having been alerted to the fire within a terraced home at around 20:00.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus and armed with a hose reel have entered the property. A covering jet is on standby.
At least 1 person is being treated for the effects of smoke inhalation by firefighters. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have been requested to attend the incident.
UPDATE @ 20:31 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that a dishwasher fire has sparked this evening’s call out.
Thankfully, the fire has been contained to the immediate area with minimal smoke damage. Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) has been used to rid the property of any lingering smoke.
Paramedics are now checking over a female occupant who has been treated with oxygen therapy.
Jeff Walls, Station Officer for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has taken this opportunity to remind Island residents to take sensible precautions when it comes to dishwashers, such as not leaving them running whilst unattended or carrying out a cycle overnight.
Initial indications are that an electrical fault is to blame for the dishwasher catching fire.
UPDATE @ 20:45 – The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have discharged the occupants of the property from their care following a check up.
Fire crews are now also standing down from the incident.
