The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service say they are concerned that 2 fires in the area of Parkhurst Forest in Newport have been started deliberately over the past week, with a third causing concern too.
Crews have attended 3 separate incidents in close proximity to Camp Hill prison and Parkhurst Forest, including this morning’s incident within the forest itself. They have also tackled fires in a field behind Camp Hill prison.
In 2 of the 3 incidents the fire service believe the cause to be deliberate, with the origin of the 3rd also raising cause for concern.
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has said:
“During the current spell of very hot and dry weather conditions any fire in the open has the potential to, very quickly, get out of control. This may put both lives and property at risk.
“We ask all members of the public to remain vigilant, and report any suspicious behaviour”.
