Firefighters are attending an electrical fire on a residential street in Shanklin this afternoon (Thursday).
2 appliances are currently on scene at Oaklyn Gardens, off Green Lane. Crews from Shanklin and Ryde were mobilised to the incident at around 16:30.
A number of properties have lost power as a result of the fire at a sub station. The street lights are also off at this present time.
Witnesses have described to Island Echo hearing 3 loud bangs ahead of the arrival of emergency services.
UPDATE @ 17:15 – Scottish and Southern Electricity Network engineers have been called to attend the scene.
It has been confirmed that the alarm was raised when members of the public dialled 999 and reported smoke, the smell of burning and flames coming from the substation.
It is unknown when power will be restored to the properties affected.
