Police are conducting a large scale search for a wanted individual in a public park in Sandown tonight (Saturday).
The National Police Air Service helicopter is circling in the skies above as officers conduct a sweep of Los Altos Park, situated alongside the railway line.
A Police dog is being used off the lead to hunt down the suspect.
The search began at around 22:40 and local’s attentions were raised when the helicopter started circling overhead, with residents stuck indoors due to the lockdown hearing the drama unfolding around them.
Island Echo understands that the search is connected to an earlier large scale response in Ryde which saw 7 units rush to the Esplanade.

The police helicopter was circling around Shanklin seafront could. See it from my house in north road for about 40 mins
More scum taking up emergency services time and effort grrr
To give the trolls something to occupy themselves with I’ll play devil’s advocate here and ask what else the police would be doing if they weren’t buzzing around in their noisy helicopter or chasing around los altos park like a cross between 007 and a TV cop from the 1970s?
There are few motorists out there so no measuring the road at accidents or speeders.
There are no pubs open for drunken revellers to cluster outside.
They leave rescues to the fire brigade and coast guard.
They claim they no longer have the resources to investigate minor incidents like burglaries.
Given that I’ve been told by more than one traffic officer that they joined the force because they “like driving fast” I don’t think it would be unfair to say this chase was the most excitement they’ve had for a while.
Happy easter trolls – enjoy!
Hope they found this suspect. Let the police dog have a chew on them for a while! Might not be so quick to break the law next time.
A large drone flew over Lake a about 4.00pm Saturday
you can tell its Sandown look ay the state of the underpass
Yeah Sandown is poor with that stuff
Drugs no doubt, when even a school teacher grows dope in their garage, you know it is endemic, and hope has gone for this once lovely Island populations children’s futures. Very sad, as more will do so now to make ‘easy money’, and less risk of being searched due to CV contagion fears.
Always were behind the mainland crime, but catching up fast, especially if all the housing to be built is given to non Islanders but those mainland councils pay our councillors to house here.
You can be certain that IF so, they will not be living anywhere near those that make such ignorant decisions.

Apparently it is MURDER. Yet, by this low life coming here, he could have killed even more as the deadly virus could be on him and he is unlikely to ‘worry’ over contaminating us, when he knows 5 years or less awaits him for murder.
Sorry for accusing the police activity on drug dealers, but only a postponement as your time will come soon, many of you are being watched, say no more.
Well done Frank, you came to completely the wrong conclusion, but atleast you got your little rant across. Hope you feel better for it.
Feeling great thank you
Sounds like we got someone who indulges in all that mind bending drug lcd or hashish to me. “He doth protest too loudly”, we was taught shakespear at school, years ago mind.
Does that Mark know the teacher in ryde I wonders. in cohoots are you or a customer, lot of gossip in village going about lad. Best keep nose cleen if I was you, they are onto more than you knows lad. heard the expression “Give em enuff rope and he’ll hang imself,”
Why do they not seal off Sandown completely all crime comes from this area.
don’t be so ridiculous !!!!!
How ignorant are you.
Agree let the police use rottweilers off the lead for a bit of sport and some lunch and the crime rate will certainly diminish….oh sorry i forgot the scumbags human rights after mugging elderly people etc..
Still letting potential virus carrier’s on the island if you don’t live here don’t come here
Not the island i grew up on seems we just don’t t care who comes here anymore it used to be so strict about building now its just a money making racket the island as it is at the moment was howquiet it was when I was young
I hardly ever meet anyone who was actually born here. You should have seen the complaints when I dared to mention elsewhere on here that one could be forgiven for thinking the Isle of Wight accent sounded the same as Yorkshire or Lancaster people’s accents. There are so many people living here who are not Island people but just come to live here, and our countryside being destroyed and built on because of the “demand” for homes.
The reason I mention it is because all those amount of people coming to live here cannot do so without it making an appreciable difference to our environment, as the Island is such a small geographical area.
If the same number of people moved from here to live somewhere up north they would be hardly noticed as they’d be swallowed up in a much larger geographical area, yet I have heard of occasions when people from down here have gone to live up north and soon been told to go back to where they came from.
Ryde used to have nice areas of countryside , now it is just so built up and horrible and full of so many scummy people, many of them from elsewhere on the mainland, (and no, I don’t mean they are all from up north before anyone says so, there are all areas all over the country they come from) maybe they come here because they think it’s an easy life near the sea or something, but certainly all the druggies and alkies littering up the town in Ryde are not all Island people born and bred.
Its all greed for the penny ,and NOT all overlanders are rubbish ,we bring some wealth and culture here ,
Certainly never said that all overlanders are rubbish. Many perfectly nice, decent people from the mainland who have come to live here, my point is merely that most of the lowlife dregs around Ryde certainly do not seem to be from the Island, and really if the nicest people in the world all came to live here, we still would not be able to find the space for them all, because of the fact of the size of the place is just not enough to accommodate everybody.
“I hardly ever meet anyone who was actually born here. ” That is because they have to move to the mainland for work as the retired generation want to prevent any improvement to public transport that could allow these people stay in their home town.
