Emergency services are attending a road traffic collision at Sandford on the outskirts of Godshill this morning (Friday).
The crash, which occurred shortly before 07:40, has happened on the A3020 near the junctions with Redhill Lane and Lessland Lane.
Island Echo readers are reporting that the area is particularly icy this morning, with a number of smaller incidents along Godshill Road.
It’s said at least 2 cars have left the road and collided with a wall.
Motorists travelling between Godshill and Whiteley Bank face delays in both directions.
Gritters were deployed across the Island yesterday afternoon and again at 04:30 this morning, as previously reported by Island Echo.
UPDATE – It has been confirmed that a Suzuki Shift and a Lexus IS200 were involved in this morning’s crash.
The driver of one of the vehicles, a 25-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving. He has since been released pending drug analysis.

Well some drivers think that a bit of salt means you can drive at normal speed, but when its cold tyre’s don’t grip as normal.
What is this dark trickery ‘Ice’ of what we speak? From whence is this Ice’ conjured? Is there not a man or a fair lady on the telly that could speak out in a timely manner and warn of when this fiend will strike beneath the wheels of our Island chariots.
‘Tis a fearful thing indeed!
The road is often flooded there
Lots of water runs from the farm land in that area and can take weeks to stop, even if we’ve had little rain fall.
However, as usual island drivers can’t understand dangerous situations, if its staring them in the face, it won’t be long when they start to blame our visitors this summer for their continued stupidity..
Makes me laugh how mainland and Island drivers blame each other for their poor awareness and driving skills. It’s a bit of a thick rational on both sides to think that regional areas makes a difference to one’s ability to drive.
How strange, I drove along this route and didn’t crash!. Oh I drove in accordance of the road conditions ie appropriate speed and using my gears more if I needed to slow down.
Seems many of us were able to navigate that route and not crash. However it’s not always the drivers fault either, it is very sketchy and I was worried I wasn’t going to stop and end up in the back of someone as I broke for them to turn into sandford, I was driving very slowly and there was the appropriate distance between us but the ice there was awful and for a second I thought I was going to slide right into him.
That road has constant surface water and needs more attention in freezing conditions. A bit of grit just doesn’t cut it! Also it happened just before 8:40am not 7:40am.
My partner saw it just after 7.40am as he went to work and both cars were in the wall. He said there were two chaps there in high viz slowing the traffic to avoid further accidents.
The island Roads are some of the most UNSAFE in the country.
Nearly everyday due to McDonalds being in a ridiculous location at Ryde and having zero traffic management there will be a series accident one time.
“It is a disaster waiting too happen”
I have contacted IW Council and Bob Seely on numerous occasions
But to be honest they are clueless and useless!
And what has Maccy d’s in Ryde got to do with a crash at Sandford?
I hate people who say ” Maccy D’s “.
They need shooting.
Yeah, it’s not “Maccy D’s” it’s Just Maccy’s. Everyone knows that.
Anyone who supports this dreadful establishment by buying their food needs shooting just out of principle.
Don,t matter you say it still crap food
If the Suzuki is the one from Wroxall, then this will be his 3rd accident in the last 12 months. The boy has bad attitude & I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it is him who had drugs in his system. As he’s well known for drug driving!
You can park there sir……
