Gritters will be deployed across the Isle of Wight later this afternoon (Thursday) and again during the early hours of tomorrow morning as a particularly cold night is forecast.
Island Roads say that the normal gritting routes and bridge decks at both Stag Lane and Foxes Road, Newport will be treated from 17:00.
The fleet of gritters will then be deployed again at 04:30 on Friday morning.
IW Met Service says that a cold, clear and frosty night is in store with temperatures well below freezing for most parts – between -3c and -1c. A few rural places may see -4c.

Thank you to the people going out and making the roads safe in the cold and icy conditions, for all those who are not able to work from home. I for one appreciate all that you do and feel much safer on my way in to work, which is certainly not a waste of money.
