Police investigating the theft of around £167 worth of items from Tesco Extra in Ryde have released a CCTV image of a woman they would like to identify.
The incident is said to have taken place at the Brading Road supermarket between 14:50 and 14:55 on Friday 24th April.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says officers would like to speak to the woman pictured as they believe she may be able to assist with enquiries.
She is described as being:
- White
- Aged between 30 and 40
- Of average build
- With dark blonde/light brown hair
- Wearing a light grey coat
Anyone who recognises the woman, or who witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 44260192218.
Officers are also appealing for any CCTV, dashcam, mobile phone or doorbell camera footage that may assist the investigation.

Well, when some arse tells security staff not to apprehend shop lifters, and then get the sack if they do, it’s now become an easy pass time for every low life thieving freeloader on the Island
Many years ago I was the Security officer for a Tesco store on the mainland. I was called in because the previous guy did nothing to stop the thieving, and as an ex Special I had no fear of these morons. On day 1 I caught 6 and by the end of the first week I had stopped over 20. The Police attended every time and they were all prosecuted. By the end of month 1 the losses had dropped by 60% and the new Morrisons had adopted all the old favourites. Reactive theft prevention WORKS, and this new way of stopping the staff from doing their jobs is ridiculous. Its time that Supermarkets got with the programme and allowed prevention, and the Police need to attend thefts rather than spending time chasing naughty word merchants.
