The National Police Air Service helicopter is circling in the skies above the Isle of Wight as it joins officers on the ground in the search for a missing person in the Ventnor area tonight (Wednesday).
Police are currently searching in the vicinity of St Boniface Down having initially responded into Ventnor at around 20:30.
In the past few minutes the NPAS helicopter from Bournemouth has begun circling the upper reaches of Ventnor.
Island Echo understands that a male aged in his 50s has gone missing and that there are growing concerns for his welfare.
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to issue an appeal for information.
UPDATE @ 22:35 – WightSAR, the Island’s volunteer search and rescue team, have been deployed at the request of Police.
The National Police Air Service helicopter continues to circle overhead, moving slightly further south.
UPDATE THURSDAY AM – The male has been successfully located by search teams, but has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport for treatment for injuries sustained.
