UPDATED: The National Police Air Service helicopter is searching in the skies above St Helens tonight (Monday).
Residents in the normally quiet village have been alerted to the presence of the eye in the sky as it circles around the area.
A search light is being used by the Bournemouth-based helicopter as it flies low overhead.
It arrived in the East Wight at around 21:20.
It is currently unknown what has sparked the response of officers both on the ground and in the air.
UPDATE @ 22:01 – Island Echo understands Police are looking for a male, who was last seen heading towards The Priory Hotel from Eddington Road.
The search continues.
UPDATE – NPAS Bournemouth have now concluded their search and have confirmed that it was as a result of a concern for welfare alert.
According to locals, a number of Police units have been seen at a property near to St Helens Church.
