Police units and an armed response vehicle (ARV) are on scene at a property on Hunnyhill today (Saturday), causing part of the busy road to be blocked.
The incident – believed to be a domestic one – occurred shortly after 10:30 this morning at a property between Wayside Drive and Hookes Way.
Armed police are at the scene but are not currently needed as the situation has been de-escalated. They remain on scene currently until the incident is completely resolved.
At least 1 Fire appliance from Newport was mobilised to the scene with multiple units on standby in the nearby Red Cross car park.
The road is closed between Wayside Drive and Hookes Way with motorists heading either up or down the busy road having to divert via Albany Road and Whitesmith Road in either direction.
Traffic around the area remains heavy.

WOW not
More chav’s will be along soon…
Especially those that use an apostrophe improperly!
I work for a living and own my own house, your chav friends live off the state and make life a misery for hard working people…
know you have managed to spend half the day resurching the word apostrophe, maybe, just maybe you will take a very long look in the mirror and ask yourself what you have achieved in life????…
I expect your a member of the entitled far left that feel your entitled to take hard working tax payers to fund your ignorant Woke lifestyle….
You’re so laughable, it’s not even funny anymore. You know absolutely nothing about me, or 99.9% (or even higher) of the rest of the people who comment on here, and yet here you go again with your wild and baseless assumptions, all of which are yet again completely incorrect. I have also worked my entire life (a company director for the last 12 years), and also own my own home. Trust me, ‘apostrophe’ is in most reasonably educated people’s repertoires, so draw your own conclusions from that one, eh?.
You continue to make a fool of yourself on here, yet still keep coming back for more! Bless ya.
You forgot to point out that research is spelt incorrectly…..
He makes so many, it’s difficult to keep track. Also “your” instead of “you’re “. And still he thinks he’s a cut above everyone else. The man is a joke.
I don’t think Stuart ‘resurched’ anything. It would be impossible to do so, since the word does not exist. Here’s a hint, use a dictionary
More bad driving on the Iow
Domestos incident? No wonder you never see a Bobby on the beat these days if they now have to clear up bleach spillages
Bleach of the Police is a slerious mutter.
How does ‘harassment without violence’ and ‘indecent/offensive’ communication warrant an armed police response and the closure of a major thoroughfare?
OTT response as usual
“Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing harassment without violence”.
If violence was not involved then why was it felt necessary to deploy armed police in the 1st place?
Not just armed officers but multiple units in Red cross and at least one fire appliance. No wonder other criminals get away with so much. Not needed
I don’t understand the downvote on your your reply to me. The IE certainly attracts some strange people.
Those criticizing deployments to this incident have no idea what information was received in the first instance. Armchair ‘experts’ strike again. Why not wait until you know the full facts. Oh no, that would take away your fun wouldn’t it.
There is a difference between asking quite reasonable questions regarding deployment of high end services and criticism. If you have the appropriate information regarding this incident then please share.
If you can personally tell us why it was reasonable to deploy the services they did then that would be great (although I personally stand by my reasonable questions) we would all know whether or not it was necessary THEN it should turn into criticism if found out these expensive services were deployed unnecessarily.
They obviously felt it was necessary but it turned out it wasn’t. Not that hard to understand is it?
So, they made a mistake. Shame they never make a mistake of sending out officers when they refuse to when people ask for help.
Odd it never works that way
