Although I would rather people didn’t drink or take drugs because of the psychological issues it can cause I would not enforce that view. We should legalise weed so that not only it can be taxed but also it’s use and strength can be controlled / monitored. The black market would vanish if you could by a pack of 20 joints for £10. It would also help fund tools for the police to identify the use whilst driving. (I don’t know if they have a reliable test) Prohibition does not work.

The black market would never vanish, as it can be grown at home and sold outside of any controlled environment. It would continue to exist, however, would be in the form of “just simply cheaper than shop bought” – If you think of the existing situation for booze and cigs, where people smuggle in duty free and sell them under the price of the shops – then that is what the cannabis market will morph into, once it is legally permitted to be sold just as any other commodity already is.

If caught you would be charged with tax evasion and not much else.

Well done to the police. Still there are many more on the island… What really annoys me, are those who freely smoke the drug in the streets and park… its horrible.
