Police responded to concerns for the welfare of a man at an address in Ryde last night (Sunday), with officers armed with shields moving in on the property.
A large number of officers descended on Meaders Road off St John’s Road at around 22:00 after the force control room received a report raising concerns for the welfare of an individual.
The Island’s Armed Response team assisted Response and Patrol colleagues with the situation, arming themselves with shields.
The situation was brought to a peaceful conclusion just before 23:00. It’s at this point that paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service tended to the unnamed male.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We were called to reports of a concern for the welfare of a man at an address in Meaders Road, Ryde, just before 10pm last night (August 8).
“Officers attended and he was located”.

If they were concerned for his welfare, why the need for riot shields?
I expect the man could have been the victim of someone violent, just a guess…
Stupid answer, try to think a little more, maybe someone was attacking the person… armed police with shields.. usually means something nasty.. so Police came ready for whatever to help the person in trouble.. simples really..
Well one never really knows anymore, because often they will describe someone as vulnerable and they are concerned for their welfare when the person they are concerned about is the one being aggressive and violent. The article never made it clear. If the person was being threatened by someone else, you’d think the article would have stated that.

Not long ago, people said it we had a fixed link, it would allow lots of criminals and bad people over… really ??? You mean worse than it is now, with dangerous car drivers, knifings , assaults, burglary’s. and weaponry … People amaze me..

Call me a stickler bu surely this should read “equipped with shields”, since shields are defensive, and not weapons?
