Police are appealing for witnesses of a collision involving a car and a child on a bike yesterday (Tuesday) – in which the 12-year-old boy suffered serious injuries.
At around 16:40 yesterday afternoon, a grey Mercedes A160 collided with a 12-year-old boy riding a push bike on Lake Hill Road, at the junction with Newcomen Road.
The road was closed for a significant period – with crash scene investigators called to the scene – whilst investigations into the incident continued.
As a result of the collision, the boy suffered serious facial injuries and remains in hospital at this time.
A statement from Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“Do you have dash cam footage of the collision, or of the car or bike in the moments beforehand?
“Please call us on 101 or visit our website quoting 44220383370 with any information that can assist our investigation.”

Poor lad I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery
What is a 12 year old boy doing on the Road in Lake in the 1st place.
Lake is a very dangerous busy road.
he was coming home from school at Sandown that’s one of the places to cycle back
Cycle lanes are required to make Roads safe for cyclists.
I pray the boy is well.
I fear Lake on 4 wheels, yet alone 2 wheels.
The junction with Tesco express is a safety hazard.
This must go down as the most pathetic comment ever
Are you serious or just a practising idiot.
Do they still teach cycling proficiency at schools or kids clubs?
Knowledge being power, can help prevent accidents.
We were not allowed to ride our bikes into school until we had passed the test, but that was in better times….
All the kids clubs have been cut by the government past 10 years, and the schools are struggling to keep the lights on… back to the drawing board.
That brings me back to the 70s when the Labour Party put us in recession and a three day working week, along with power cuts and a label calling the UK sick man of Europe….the day when Labour’s pay masters held our country to ransom every year by strikes, thank God Thatcher went to war with the union’s, and shut them down…
Another stupid comment from the Island Idiot.
The three day week, petrol shortages and the planned power cuts were all during the government of a certain Mr Heath – a Conservative Prime Minister as everybody with a little common sense would know.
It was the paymaster of the Labour Party that destroyed our industry, then forced our companies to move to the far east you idiot….our manufacturing was lost because of communist lowlife like you, idiot, so shut up because you weren’t there to experience what this nation once had to be proud of….
Incorrect. Your assumptions about me are as inaccurate as your original claims.
Maybe you would like to tell me where I was in 1973-4 – you know: that period of the three day week, power cuts etc and who I voted for in the General Election of March 1st 1974?
Also tell me who was responsible for that three day week and power cuts.
You can try to rewrite history all you like, but the facts are all there for anyone to see.
Yet more utter garbage you’re spouting out, and what on earth has it got to do with the headline above?
And please sort out your use of apostrophes, it’s really not difficult.
Your just another idiot that has nothing to say but criticism of others, so you can stuff your apostrophes where the sun doesn’t shine…
You’re! Come on now, you really must make an effort.
Is no one here interested in the welfare of the 12 year old. Come on you tossers, forget politics.
Can tell you’re a Tory voter, not a Tory but just a silly deluded voter. Boris had 39 billion for track and trace and where’s that all gone? Maggie made hundreds of thousands jobless and left em. Yeah all that good work huh.
Actually quite a few island schools do cycle proficency
Just about every Primary School across the country offers a variety of after school clubs and many have cycling safety lessons too. Some Secondary schools offer them too.
Why do people post comments that they have absolutely no knowledge about?
A 12 year old child is seriously injured and you use it as an opportunity to victim blame and spew more of your “back in my day” garbage.
You know full well that kids can’t take a cycling proficiency test because, as Sam correctly points out, they have been scrapped due to Tory cuts.
No they have not dick head the council appointed cycle proficency testers in 2021
You really do manage to take stupid to a whole new level.
There’s no infrastructure in place for cycling, mixing cars and cycles is a rescipy for disaster….just like horses, they simply don’t go together….
Island Echo. Your post yesterday had a few witness’s comment. Best to get police to get the names from that. One witness stated that it was no one’s fault. The boy had no helmet on and fell off the pavement on the steep slope and fell into oncoming traffic. They gave first aid at the scene apparently.
My Dad always told me……….
If you have nothing polite relevant and intreating to say don’t do it.
I hope that this poor unfortunate boy recovers and the driver of the car is soon able to come to terms with what happened and move on.
Hope the boy makes a full recovery nothing wrong with riding to school shame he got hurt
Lake hill is deadly to all the council must put in a green man Crossing near where the I incident happened. Also a green man Crossing is needed outside little tesco and the zebra Crossing replaced to green man. The zebra Crossing is another accident waiting to happen. This part of lake is too busy with the school where the fairway meets the main road. And the hill must be made to a 20 mph it’s narrow for cars abd pedestrians. Apse heath needs a traffic light system. When will the council ever do anything? Surely traffic lights can’t be that expensive? I am really sorry for this boy. The council are to blame. It may be better to make lake hill a one traffic lane like shafleet. One lane at a time. The gradient of the hill makes it unsafe.
