At least 1 person has been conveyed to hospital following a 3-car shunt on The Broadway in Sandown tonight (Thursday).
Police and paramedics are currently on scene near the junction of Melville Street having been alerted to the multiple vehicle crash at around 20:30.
It’s understood that a silver Skoda Fabia estate went into the rear of a blue Skoda Fabia estate, which then in turn hit a BMW 3-series, on the approach to 1 of several zebra crossings on the main road through Sandown.
The silver Fabia’s airbags have been deployed as a result of the impact. The other 2 vehicles involved – which have been moved into Melville Street – have sustained less severe damage.
It’s unclear at this stage if torrential downpours moving across the Isle of Wight tonight played any part in the collision.
Island Echo understands at least 1 person has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance, but their injuries are not thought to be serious.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have also checked over the other vehicle’s occupants, who have been given a clean bill of health.
The Broadway remains open in both directions whilst recovery is arranged.
UPDATE FRIDAY – Police have confirmed that a 35-year-old woman, the driver of 1 of the Skodas, was conveyed to hospital alongside her passenger, however, no injuries have been reported to Police.
Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Obviously one or two were too close and possibly too quick especially given the conditions.

An idiot in a white Audi with a 5 letter / digit number plate drove at a
very fast dangerous speed heading towards Chillerton
The Audi made a very loud noise and overtook at least 3 vehicles and was on the opposite
side of the Road.
It’s no wonder so many accidents happen on the Island
There is no Law to Stop such idiots.
I would ban such persons for life, idiots like this could kill innocent persons.
Islandwide speed cameras are required
You may not agree with this, in fact I am sure you won’t, but just because you are being overtaken does not mean that car is speeding. You see it all too often on the Island, cars doing 25 to 30 in an area where the speed limit is set at 60. Just because they want to go faster than you does not mean they are speeding. They are allowed, that’s the law!
Overtaking so many vehicles is putting other motorists at risk
with Head on crashes.
What if another lunatic driver was coming in the opposite direction doing the same.

Saw this moron flying up the road behind us about that time on Broadway last night. We pulled over because the twat was tail gating. Obviously, then flew off even faster and did this. Probably on drugs.
