The Pier2Pier Sea Swim due to take place on Saturday 5th August 2023 has been cancelled due to a bad weather forecast.
As previously reported by Island Echo, local weather forecaster IW Met Service issued a yellow warning for wind this Saturday, with gusts of up to 60mph expected.
The event was previously cancelled some 2 weeks ago as unseasonably strong winds hit the Island.
A spokesperson from the Isle of Wight Marlins Swimming Club has said:
“The safety and well-being of swimmers and safety craft are our utmost priority, and this decision was made with careful consideration.
“We would like to extend our sincere apologies for the inconvenience that this cancellation will cause and offer our heartfelt thanks to everyone who continues to support the event, including local charities, organisations and individuals, as well as the swimmers entered into the Swim.
“We are now looking to planning the 2024 event which will be our 70th year. We plan to make it a special and memorable celebration, scheduled for Saturday 20th July with a back-up date of Saturday 3rd August.”
Ban it. If you want to swim it, YOU chose the day and time, don’t need to have an audience; OR do you?
