UPDATED: Emergency services are battling to save the life of an individual who has been pulled from the water near Prince’s Green in Cowes this evening (Monday).
Shocked eye witnesses say that CPR is in progress on the waterfront, where the tide is currently at its highest.
A number of Police and ambulance crews are on scene off Queen’s Road.
UPDATE @ 17:30 – The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has circled overhead and landed on the walkway at Prince’s Green.
Specialist on-board doctors and paramedics are now working alongside the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
UPDATE – A woman has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance.
There has been no update on her condition.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We were called just before 5pm regarding concerns for the welfare of a woman in the water.
“Officers arrived and began treating the woman who had been helped out of the water.
“She has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital for treatment”.
Praise has been given to Police, first responders, paramedics, the air ambulance crew, an off duty nurse and to 2 young lads who raised the alarm.
