A medical incident on a narrow residential road in Ryde has resulted in a call out for paramedics and firefighters this afternoon (Sunday).
Emergency service personnel rushed to Wray Street at around 14:45 following the initial call to the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Joining paramedics on scene was a Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service appliance from Ryde.
Island Echo understands that a man was spotted slumped at the wheel of his car. Thankfully, some passers-by spotted him and managed to remove him from the vehicle and conduct CPR.
The male occupant was stabilised prior to the arrival of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. They are to be conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital imminently.
As a result of the incident, Wray Street is currently blocked.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being.

Wray Street is often blocked, mainly due to vehicles parked across the pavement at all hours of the day.
Some are more on the pavement than road which impede mothers with prams and pushchairs and also people with mobility issues.
It’s about time the council and or police cracked down on this, I am surprised no one has been seriously injured there.
There is no law on the island and the Counc are useless.
Many places on the mainland have BANNED pavement
parking.
”
THE ISLE OF WIGHT ALLOWS PAVEMENT PARKING”
Everyday numpties are parked on the pavement / Double Yellow
Lines along Oakhill Road in Seaview.
I WOULDN’T MIND THERE IS A LARGE CAR PARK A FEW METRES
AWAY OR THEY CAN PARK FREE ALONG THE ESPLANADE
THEY KNOW THE ISLAND AUTHORITIES ARE USELESS SO THEY
DO WHAT THEY WANT.
Mr Khan would have them towed away and crushed.
Roll on devolution, we need to see some rules on this
lawless island.
Enough is Enough
And I am sure first if all you meant to say I hope the person involved makes a full recovery!.
Quite right
Of course, but if numpties stopped parking selfishly it
would help make Roads and Streets safe for everyone
it would also make it easier for Emergency services when
attending to such incidents.
