A paramedic caught drink driving looks to set lose his job after being banned from the road for 17 months.
Sebastian Rupp, 45, of Tandy Close in Ryde, admitted drink driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (29th October).
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that on the morning of 13th October, Police on patrol followed a Mercedes driving toward Newport from Sandown. The vehicle was seen driving over a mini-roundabout without stopping and was also seen drifting over the lines in the middle of the road.
Officers stopped the vehicle near The Fighting Cocks where Rupp identified himself as the driver. A roadside breath test was conducted which returned a positive result.
Rupp was taken to Newport Police Station where he blew a reading of 67 – nearly double the legal limit.
Defending Rupp, Lucy Linnington told the court that her client had been a medical professional for some 23 years, firstly back in his native Poland before moving the United Kingdom. She added that Rupp has been suspended on full-pay and that he is ‘almost certainly going to lose his job’.
Magistrates handed Rupp a 17-month driving ban. He was fined £438 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and £175 surcharge fee.

You would expect a person in such a position
to understand that drink driving kills.
Many paramedics attend to accidents involving
Drink drivers, don’t expect a paramedic to be a
Drink driver.
Instant imprisonment is the only way to deal
with drink drivers.
How sad it is to see a highly skilled paramedic waste the rest of what was once a brilliant career. He has in the past, most likely saved so many lives, which some of those were the victims of Drink Drivers. I am certain that if he had problems, there would have been someone within the Ambulance Service that could and would have helped him.
I’m not too keen on generalising but many Poles do seem to drink to excess. It’s annoying when migrants take advantage of our hospitality and in return try to kill or maim us.
