Despite a slow start to the day due to the Women’s World Cup Final on TV, there was a good turnout of visitors to Bembridge Lifeboat Station for its annual open day.
Around 900 people visited the offshore lifeboat to inspect the Tamar class All Weather Lifeboat. The inshore boathouse was also open enabling the public to view the D-class inshore lifeboat. There were also attractions with sideshows and stalls, and the RNLI shop was open all day selling lifeboat gifts, souvenirs and clothing.
Refreshments were served by the Bembridge Lifeboat Guild members, the proceeds for which accounted for over £1,000 towards the overall sum.
As well as being a fun event, there was an important message about how to keep safe in, on or around the sea, which was highlighted by the Bembridge RNLI’s Coastal Safety Team giving out valuable advice, with many people expressing particular interest in safety issues.
The visits and education team also had a busy time with the visitors to the offshore boathouse during the day, many expressing an interest in the work of the lifeboats and the lifeboat service.
During the afternoon the shoreline and boathouse were packed with spectators to watch the launch of the All WeatherLifeboat which, together with the inshore lifeboat, entertained the crowds with a thrilling simulated rescue and display, demonstrating how these lifeboats can respond and operate together in an emergency.
Over £4,000 was raised on the day in support of the lifeboats.

funding the illegal immigrant taxi service is not high on my agenda
Nice to know that it is donations funding the illegals taxi service and not us, but we pay for everything thing else they will be endowed with as they come with nothing, but in a few short years will have most everything.
I’m donating £100 for each unique racist nutjob posting immigration taxi gibberish.
Then pee off to Eritrea or Albania etc.
I do hope that you are letting the illegals that the RNLI taxi pick up in the channel stay at your home rent free then john.
