Ryde Golf Club’s 999 Charity Golf Event raised £1,526 for The Wight Brainy Bunch, uniting emergency service teams and supporters for a day of sport and solidarity.
Open to all Island emergency services personnel, Armed Forces members, and individuals or families affected by brain tumours, the annual event aimed to raise both awareness and vital funds for the local charity.
There was a strong turnout, with teams representing the Police, Fire Service, Prison Service, and NHS. Participants enjoyed favourable weather and a fantastic afternoon of golf and camaraderie.
This year’s event was generously sponsored by Teehut Golf, who provided an impressive first prize package. Congratulations go to the Police team, who took top spot, with the Fire Service team finishing a close second.
Event organiser Nickie Moreton shared her personal motivation behind the cause:
“Following my brain tumour diagnosis in 2011, as a single mother with two young children, I found myself very much alone, unsupported (aside from my parents and close family), and scared. I had to write my will, and the night before my surgery, I said goodbye to my children not knowing if I would ever see them again.
My single wish is that no one else should have to go through that traumatic time alone. Since the charity was founded, in 2015, I’ve been committed to organising events like this to raise funds and awareness for others facing similar battles.”
Thanks to the generosity and spirit of all involved, the event raised £1,526, which will help The Wight Brainy Bunch continue supporting Isle of Wight families affected by brain tumours.
A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who participated, donated, or supported the event in any way.
The Wight Brainy Bunch was founded by Ryde firefighter Mark Grimes and his wife Kathryn following Mark’s own diagnosis in 2015. The charity provides both emotional support and financial assistance to Island families living with the impact of a brain tumour.
