An oven fire at a property in Sandown has led to an emergency response from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service this morning (Thursday).
2 appliances – from Ryde and Shanklin – were mobilised to the residential address on Perowne Way at just before 11:10.
It has been confirmed that the fire was out upon arrival of the first crew from Shanklin.
Firefighters have now safely removed the appliance from the property and are fitting smoke alarms within the end-of-terrace home.
Ryde’s appliance has been stood down.
Positioning, maintaining and testing smoke detectors in your home could save your life. Didn’t there used to a fire station in Sandown, or was it out on a shout?
The lack of on call firefighters across the island means several pumps aren’t available during the working day as many are working out of town now.
