Sandown’s new lifeguard headquarters were installed last weekend ahead of the busy Summer after the old one was no longer fit for purpose.
As previously reported by Island Echo in April, plans had been put forward to upgrade the existing station after storm damage, COVID-19 restrictions and a collapsed gazebo had made it difficult to work effectively.
The yellow container – funded by a successful National Lottery Grant by Ryde Beach Lifeguards and Sandown Town Council – will provide the Lifeguards with a clearly visible, purpose-built building enabling the team to have clear observation of the whole beach, as well as to perform first aid safely and to have the ability to tend to visitors out of the way of the elements.
The new base is thanks to Sandown Town Councils’ support and commitment to the Beach Lifeguard Service, as well as the hard work of those at STC, Inspiration Fabrication and Ryde Beach Lifeguards, who helped to bring the project to fruition. It sits on the Esplanade beach, between the Avenue Road Slipway and Sandown Pier.
Todd Miller, Beach Manager of Ryde Beach Lifeguards, said:
“I am over the moon with the new Beach Lifeguard HQ at Sandown, it will make the world of difference to the Lifeguards and enable them to see everyone with a lot more ease, as well as enabling them to get out of the elements on those hot summer days. I cannot thank Sandown Town Council, The National Lottery and Inspiration Fabrication for bringing this vision to reality.”

Why can’t he thank them ?
Quite rude really don’t you think? I’d have thought it was the least he could have done.
I think the word “enough” has been left out???
