Island Line trains have once again been suspended and are unlikely to run at all today (Thursday) – this time due to an ‘operational issue’.
South Western Railway say that an incident at Ryde St John’s means that trains have been cancelled, with disruption expected until the end of the day.
It’s unclear what exactly has led to this suspension of service at this time.
There has been no mention of a rail replacement service but it has been highlighted that rail tickets are not valid on Southern Vectis buses.
For further information or onward travel advice passengers are being urged to speak to a member of staff, or use a station help point.
South Western Railway say they are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey.
UPDATE @ 13:40 – It has been confirmed that services are now up and running.
A spokesperson for South Western Railway has told Island Echo:
“Unfortunately we had an issue getting one of our trains out of the depot and into service this morning, but we are now running a full service for the rest of the day. We apologise to customers on the Isle of Wight for any inconvenience this may have caused”.

That is strange as I’ve just seen a train arrive in Ryde.
Getting like all the other transport services on Island.
Get out walking boots & swimming trunks more reliable.
Checking the swr website, it states that fewer trains are able to run at present. Checking the train monitoring site which shows every service and times of arrival etc, this shows that the 15 from Shanklin has run all day
Here we go again, it’s one excuse after another. What was it last week, staff shortages and/or mechanical issues? Why Island Line actually bother providing a train service in the first place is beyond me. Clearly management don’t care about customer service otherwise they’d have a more professional approach in the day to day running of a failing business.
Didn’t realise Wightlink had taken over the running of the Island Line Train service ? , or may be there on a job share schedule with each other’s staff !
Oh dear, floaty has a contender for the most unreliable service crown
Shut it down and give back the keys
Well I have had good experances with the new trains always get me to the boat on time and back on time keep up tge good work island line
