A former civil servant who was found in possession of more than 700,000 indecent images of children back in 2017, has avoided being sent to prison after admitting his 3rd breach of a court order.
Peter Trayner, 74, of Queens Road in Freshwater, appeared at the Isle of Wight Crown Court last week (Friday 31st August) for sentencing having previously admitted failing to comply with notification requirements of someone on the sex offenders register.
Trayner – who worked as a civil servant – was sentenced to 29 months in prison back in February 2017 after more than 700,000 indecent images were found on his computer.
As part of his conviction, he was ordered to register at Newport Police Station when he received any new bank cards, something he failed to do back in April 2023.
The 74-year-old’s non-compliance was not discovered until April 2024 when he was registering his devices at the police station, as he is legally told to do.
Defending, Lucy Linnington told the court that Trayner accepts he was wrong and that as his card details such as account number etc. hadn’t changed, he thought didn’t need to register it. Traynor was also convicted back in 2022 after yet more indecent images were found in his possession. On that occasion, he was handed a community order.
Since being forced to sign the sex offenders register back in 2017, Trayner has breached his notification requirements no less than 3 times.
The Judge handed Trayner handed a 12-month community order, to include 15 rehabilitation days, and fined the pensioner £500.
