A long-serving member of Newchurch Male Voice Choir has been recognised for his dedication after spending 25 years as the group’s Musical Director.
Roy Bevan first joined the Choir in 1982 as a tenor voice before stepping into the role of Musical Director in 2001 on what was intended to be a temporary basis.
Now, 25 years later, Roy continues to lead the Choir at its weekly Friday evening practices and performances across the Isle of Wight.
Under his guidance, the Choir has performed at concerts supporting charities and community groups, travelled across England and Wales to sing alongside other choirs and welcomed visiting choirs to the Island.
One of the Choir’s most memorable appearances came in 2009 when it opened the Main Stage at Bestival at Robin Hill.
To mark Roy’s 44 years with the Choir – including 25 years as Musical Director – Choir Chair Rod Riddell presented him with a commemorative plaque in recognition of his service. Roy’s wife, Anita, was also presented with a bouquet.
The Choir is set to perform at upcoming concerts at Bembridge Fort on Culver Down on Sunday 14th June at 14:30 and at Quarr Abbey on Saturday 27th June at 14:30.
