A new food venture focused on locally sourced ingredients and healthier eating has opened its doors in Shanklin, led by Army veteran Kelly Way.
Eat Wight, a sandwich and spud bar located on Falcon Cross Road, has been developed over recent months by Kelly – with the support of family and friends.
The new business aims to champion Isle of Wight produce by working closely with local farmers and suppliers, while also committing to avoiding ultra-processed food.
The menu features a range of baked potatoes and sandwiches made using ingredients sourced from across the Isle of Wight, including butter from Briddlesford Farm, eggs from Hazlegrove Farm, tomatoes from Isle of Wight Tomatoes and bread from The Lost Mill Bakery.
The business has also partnered with other local suppliers, with Island crafts by Solent Sawdust displayed in the shop window.
Kelly has said:
“I am passionate about supporting the community in which I live, and Eat Wight is very much about harnessing the quality foods produced on the Isle of Wight, ensuring Good Mood Food is available for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
Early customer feedback has been positive, with one visitor describing the food as great quality and praising both the pricing and use of local ingredients.
Eat Wight’s opening comes after several weeks of preparation, with Kelly highlighting the role of local trades and businesses in helping bring the venture to life despite challenges such as road closures in the area.
Kelly added that working with Isle of Wight businesses remains central to the ethos of Eat Wight, as it looks to establish itself within the Shanklin community.
