The Hampshire Police and Crime Panel has confirmed the appointment of Terry Norton as Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Mr Norton takes on the role with immediate effect.
Deputy Police Commissioner Terry Norton said:
“I am proud to be Hampshire born-and-bred. Having worked as a teacher throughout my career, I am passionate about public service and working with young people. I am committed to reducing the crimes that blight our communities.
“As the Deputy PCC I will be supporting the Police and Crime Commissioner in her drive to cut crime and make communities safer. We share the same vision and are both committed to preventing crimes happening and supporting victims when they do.
“I’m looking forward to serving Hampshire and the Isle of Wight as we deliver the pledge of more police and safer streets. I look forward to engaging with Hampshire and Isle of Wight’s dedicated police officers, staff, volunteers, and community leaders.”
Commissioner Donna Jones adds:
“I’m pleased to welcome Terry to the team. He will be leading on a number of areas including the Scrutiny of Out of Court Disposals, working with health partners to aid the long term prevention of crime and representing me at Community Safety and public meetings with local councils. His knowledge and background will assist me in representing the public and ensuring I am aware of issues as they emerge in local communities.”
The PCC has based this decision on the experience Mr Norton has of working closely with her in public front-facing roles over the last 5 years. The PCC has chosen an individual who has a strong background in teaching and local government.
Through his work in the local government sector, Mr Norton understands the significance of working closely with public health. Previously, Mr Norton has supported the PCC with understanding the vulnerabilities of children at risk of offending or being exploited.
Just another greedy ineffective snout in the trough.
Having worked as a teacher throughout my career, I am passionate about public service and working with young people. I am committed to reducing the crimes that blight our communities.
..a teacher – by definition an apologist do gooder. All he will be doing is joining the ranks of those that excuse criminals, ignore victims and prioritise name calling on twitter, over real crime.
Why is this individual, who has no experience been given this job and more to the point, why is there even a deputy – The woman who is the commissioner, does next to nothing.
Another pointless addition to the wage bill levied upon the public purse.
Tell you what.
Instead of nice ‘sound bites’, how about TELLING the officers etc to actually get off their backsides and do some crime fighting!
When those Feral Kids were wreaking havoc, the lady who phoned about it was told to ‘fill in an online form’!!!
Get out if your snug little offices and DO SOME WORK!!
Is there really an acute shortage of officers, even now afer 20k more have been added ?
…Or perhaps it is due to officers spending too long in front of their computer screens, mesmerized ?
The lack of action, lack of interest in enforcing the law by the Police needs to be explained.
Certainly many of us have totally lost faith in the force, after repeatedly reporting drug crime going on in our community, only to be completely ignored and seen absolutely no action taken.
to quote “and representing me at Community Safety and public meetings with local councils.” Why is that, is Donna Jones running scared at the hassle she will get if she actually gets off her arse and attends them. 2 Murders and countless acts of vandalism since she took over, not exactly good is it.
Let’s not forget how long it took them to get off of well padded arses and go to the murder in Ryde, despite phone calls advising of a person in trouble! Absolutely shocking!
Yet another person with no policing experience telling police forces what they should do. There is not, and never should be any place for politics in policing. Get rid of these Crime Commissioners and let Chief Constables run their own force. That would free up £millions back into police budgets so that more real police officers can be appointed.
he looks about 20 with no life experience another waste of tax payers money
bet he lives at his mums
no wonder our council tax went up its to pay her £86,700 a year now him .£65.025 a year what a waste of money both of them.
Never done a days hard work then
Another complete waste of time and our money, we get the police precept increased every year and see no benefit or return, if you try to report a crime it is ignored or by the time any police respond the perpetrators are long gone.
The current police force is not fit for purpose any more and this is just empire building.
