A charity entertainment night inspired by the classic TV show Stars In Their Eyes has raised £1,970 for Carers IW, supporting unpaid carers across the Isle of Wight.
Held at the Riverside Centre in Newport in November, the event brought together local performers who transformed into famous musical icons for an evening of fundraising and fun. The show was organised and hosted by Anthony Crompton, a seasoned entertainer originally from Wigan who now lives on the Isle of Wight.
Anthony, who has a long-standing history of hosting charity shows in his hometown, launched the event as a way to unite the community while raising money for important local causes. He has said:
“The support we’ve received this year has been overwhelming, and it’s heartening to see so many people giving their time and energy to such worthy causes.
“Without the production team behind the show, it would simply not happen. Not one person took one penny for their time and effort they put into the show. The professionalism was the best I have ever encountered, with amazing lights and sound.”
Each contestant committed to six weeks of rehearsals to prepare for their tribute performances. Despite most having only karaoke experience, they delivered impressive impersonations of stars including Dolly Parton, Eddi Reader, Kate Bush, Tim Curry, Johnny Cash, George Michael, Bobby Darin, Lady Gaga and show winner Pavarotti.
The event, now in its third year, was co-hosted by Anthony and local singer Sarah Morris.
All proceeds from the evening were recently handed over to Carers IW, which supports unpaid carers across the Isle of Wight.
Carers IW provides vital assistance to those who look after family members or loved ones, many of whom receive no payment for the care they provide.
