A Newport woman on her way to do some shopping was stopped by Police who found her to be drug driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence, a court has heard.
Kirsty Gardener, 33, from Newport, admitted driving without a licence, driving without insurance and drug driving when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday).
Lauren Stone, prosecuting, told the court that on 16th April, officers on routine patrol stopped Gardener – who was driving her Citroen Xsara – on Fairlee Road.
When asked if she was insured or not, Gardener admitted that her insurance policy may have expired. Checks conducted showed that Gardener was indeed driving without valid insurance and also without a licence – which was revoked.
A roadside breath test returned a negative result but a roadside drugs wipe returned an above-limit indication for THC – cannabis.
Gardener has a single previous conviction from 2006.
Defending Gardener, Barry Keel said that his client was on her way to get some shopping when she was stopped by Police.
Magistrates handed the mum-of-4 a 12-month driving ban and fined her £140. She was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge fee of £56.

Driving without a licence and gets a ban.
Good call, that will stop her from driving, won’t it?
If she can afford drugs then she can afford the bus fare.
Drug driving kills. There is no excuse.
Instant imprisonment for any drink or drug
drivers no excuses.
These selfish B’stards will never learn, they
are putting law abiding Citizens lives at risk.
We need more of these routine checks – well done Police. Arrogance beyond belief to drive without a licence or insurance. I’m alright Jack, pull up the ladder and to hell with everyone else. It’s not poverty, it’s arrogance and ignorance.
