It was a busy afternoon on the water for the crew of Bembridge RNLI today (Sunday)
RNLB Norman Harvey was launched earlier this afternoon, at around 13:15, to assist the 8 crew of a RIB that had run aground on the Bembridge Ledge.
Conditions were relatively benign so it did not take long for the Norman Harvey to reach the casualty vessel.
After discussions with the skipper, and having anchored the RIB using an anchor lent from a local boatyard, all were taken back to the Inshore Lifeboat Station and after a cup of tea they made their own way back to where they were staying on the Island.
The Norman Harvey then re-launched at around 18:00 and took the skipper and 1 other member of the crew back to the RIB which was, by that time, afloat.
Having recovered the loaned anchor, and having ascertained that the RIB’s engine was usable, they escorted her into Bembridge Harbour for a more detailed check up and subsequent repairs to the bottom end of the engine if required.
The boat and its crew returned to Lane End and was recovered by 18:45.
