A multi-vehicle collision near the Isle of Wight County Showground is adding to the delays already experienced by roadworks on the Newport to Cowes Road this afternoon’s (Wednesday) rush hour.
Emergency services are in attendance at a road traffic collision outside of the showground near Northwood, where it’s understood a motorcycle and numerous other vehicles have been involved in a crash.
There are already delays in the area as drainage works continue further down the road towards Newport on Horsebridge Hill.
The incident occurred at around 16:40.
Traffic in the area is building and slow-moving between Northwood Garage and Parkhurst Road.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes where possible.
Buses are suffering delays, also.
UPDATE @ 17:20 – Island Echo has been told by an eyewitness that a motorcycle, that was filtering through the queuing traffic for the upcoming temporary traffic lights, was knocked off their motorcycle as a result of a Toyota Yaris deciding to turn around to avoid the delays.
Police have temporarily closed the road with multiple units on the scene.
Other members of the public, including other motorcycle riders have stopped to assist with the rider.
UPDATE @ 17:43 – The road has now reopened and emergency services have left the scene.

I expect it was some idiot car driver turning around or pulling out and not checking mirrors or road for the motorcycle lawfully filtering…
Couldn’t be the motorcyclist not taking enough care, could it?
Lawfully allowed to filter through traffic car driver should of looked before doing a u turn so not bikes fault
You don’t say me old fruit
Or some motorcycle thinking that he shouldn’t have to wait like everyone else. It is NOT legal to filter on the inside of vehicles if that is what they were doing
Unlikely to be the case given the driver was turning back and the right wing is damaged. Look at the pictures and read the text Gaz you big silly chap (BSc).
Your wrong
If he was to the right of cars its leagal..ie down the middle..
Wrong – biker was speeding and car had hazards on perfuming uturn – biker also narrowly avoided a bus by being on wrong side carriage way just few minutes prior.
Glad you put this on here DW. I’m sick of seeing this ”Think bike” B/S stickers everywhere. THEY need to think road rules and speed limits, both of which they think it is ok to defy, then when they come for one, blame everyone else. I had one yesterday over taking held up cars on double white lines on the wrong side of the road and then when traffic came the other way would cut in front of them making them hit the brakes. All of which is on my dash cam and will be handed to the police. We should should have stickers saying ”Drive like a twat, you’ll up a splat”
The clue is in the ‘Yaris’.
Yes correct a lot of car drivers don’t use there mirrors or bloody indicate where there going it’s not hard to check mirror and indicate
These morons dug that rd up before causing chaos, why are they doing it again? They need to double yellow pallance rd as all the cars parked at the bottom cause a right nightmare on the only diversion round it
That will be the Pallance Road that is down for closure at the top end Thursday & Friday this week!
So correct ,tax payer, possibly same morons who keep digging up fishbourne .
they should be forced to work shift ,day and night on any main roads as causes chaos .
went by fishbourne yesterday only to see one member of SGN sat in a chair behind the van ,, disgrace
So correct ,tax payer possibly same morons who keep digging up fishbourne .
they should be forced to work shift ,day and night on any main roads as causes chaos .
went by fishbourne yesterday only to see at least one sat in a bloody garden chair ( no kidding) behind the van, and nobody near or in the hole but traffic Traile right back both ways ,bloody disgrace
Oh yes you must be correct, just because they weren’t working as you went past means they are morons and should be forced to work different shifts to accommodate your daily route.
They need to Double yellow the whole Isle.
There are far too many motors on such a small island.
Totally agree. The buses probably have enough capacity to move all these sheep around.
And it’s only £2
And what are the people meant to do who live down Pallance Road who do not have driveways to park their cars? the road is the only option. Just because you want to use it as a rat run and drive down full pelt at 50mph+ that’s your issue and the issue of the Island road infrastructure and for the IOWCC, Island Roads, DfT and the Gov to sort out.
I suggest you either build a driveway in your front garden if you have one, or go buy a house with a drive way, why people expect to be able to leave their cars in the public rd is beyond me, I’ve heard that palance rd will be getting double yellows after the pub all the way down to the bridge at the bottom soon
Probably filtering at about 40mph
Poor motorcyclist I hope they are OK. Drivers need to be more aware before doing u turns. My daughter almost got knocked off her bike when a car pulled out of a space in newport High Street luckily she’s new to riding so wasn’t going fast and was watching everyone.
Hope the motor cyclist is OK.
Motorcycles are a pain in the ar*e,
they are lawless, they ride too fast and do not care about other
Motorists.
There is nothing “lawless” about a motorcycle that is legally allowed to be on the road.
Just open your eyes and look around the island for cars doing exactly the same thing, thinking they are the fast and furious isle of wight edition.
Lastly don’t tar every biker with the same brush, not all of them ride like Valentino Rossi.
Just like not all car drivers are the same.
Don’t think so there are too many cars and only a few bikes so how can you say that you just another stupid car driver that thinks you own the road
Trevor, just check your local papers. On any given day there are multiple stories of drug drivers, drink drivers, speeders, untaxed vehicles etc. Every single one of them a car. Just saying, Trev. Bloody lawless motorcyclists!
Some are, yes. Most are not. As a motorcyclist that bad ones piss me of as much as they do you.
Get the bus it’s only £2.00 and and you be less one problem in your expensive car.
Some of those motorcyclists overtaking are annoyingly on the wrong side of the road. They then have to squeeze in between cars when on coming traffic appears
You can’t tell me you would not do the same if you rode a motorcycle and there is queued traffic
Motorcycles are Lawless on tbis Island, it is not
surprising so many of them come a cropper, most of them
don’t know how to ride a Motorbike.
And your the one person that commented on that poor lad that got killed saying they should be 18 before you ride a bike your a total idiot get a life
‘Filtering’ means, in reality, overtaking.
Yes, the car driver obviously should have looked to see if someone was overtaking, but, equally, the motorcyclist should have been aware of the dangers and reduced his or her speed appropriately.
Unfortunately, you see both scenarios happening on the roads every day, people not indicating when turning and others driving too fast for the situation and not taking care.
There is nothing wrong with filtering, it is allowed in the highway code.
But you will also find, mirror, signal, manoeuvre for cars which should also be done correctly.
Normally I will defend motorcycles but first rule of overtaking is don’t overtake a car that’s signaling right…………. that is of course assuming they were signaling.
They didn’t signal.
If they didn’t signal then its the car drivers fault How was the biker supposed to know?. Simples
anther idiot island driver not looking before they make a turn what is it with drivers on this island that don’t think to look
Kevin has gone to Devon
Motorbikes should be banned on the Island.
Get a Vespa or Lambretta, much safer and more environmentally
friendly.
A push bike is even better.
You should be banned from the island talking like that. Motorbike filtering is at times safer than sitting in traffic, however each and every scenario is different and requires a quick thought from the rider as to is it or isn’t it safer, a simple risk assessment. I ride bikes, small and large, I witness a lot of poor road craft by motorcyclists but also a lot of poor manoeuvres by car drivers, i.e not looking before moving off, mirror check or sweep from left to right mirror etc.
So a Vespa or Lambretta doesn’t constitute being a ‘motorbike’ then?
And of course, those Vespa & Lambretta ‘motorbikes’ don’t turn-out a load of blue smoke do they??
Are you on drugs or trolling? How is burning two stroke better. And Lambrettas have awful handling. Takes a lot of skill not to fall off when going more than 30.
Pot head Trevor anit so cleverly
Not filtering. Filtering is when you go between two lines of stopped or slow moving vehicles. He was over taking. In my book, both as some fault. Car for not looking and bike not being carful. As an experienced rider I know a long line of stopped cars is very dangerous as drivers can get frustrated to make mistakes. You have to be very careful.
