A £1.57billion financial support package to protect cultural, arts and heritage institutions has been welcomed by Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely.
The Government said the emergency grants and loans package – designed to support the future of museums, galleries, theatres, independent cinemas, heritage sites and music venues – would help the institutions to weather the impact of coronavirus.
Bob said:
“I’m pleased that the Government is able to support this sector. First, we need to protect jobs, but we also need to ensure there is something for people to do as we emerge from lockdown.
“It’s these kind of venues that provide something uplifting for people after months of lockdown. I hope that Isle of Wight groups will take advantage of this fund when it becomes available.”
The Government said the package represented the biggest ever one-off investment in UK culture and built on the financial assistance already in place including loans, business rate holidays and the coronavirus job retention scheme.
Further details will be set out when the scheme opens for applications in the coming weeks.

Bob, stop jumping on everyone else’s idea’s. We all know you don’t have any of your own. The only one you did have during lockdown got you into everyone’s bad books. The island is now open (almost) so the second peak is on the way.
Can’t help wondering how much of that money will end up in London and other big cities.
I suspect very little, if any at all will, make it to the island.
